Loss Budget Calculator for Fibre Optic Links

Calculate the total attenuation of your fibre link from fibre loss, connectors and splices – and check it against the available system budget. Preset standard values per IEC 60793 / ITU-T G.652 / TIA-568, all values editable.

Formula: total loss = (length × α) + (connectors × loss each) + (splices × loss each) + (splitters × loss per stage). Preset standard values (typical): SM OS2 per ITU-T G.652.D – 1310 nm ≈ 0.35 dB/km, 1550 nm ≈ 0.22 dB/km; MM OM3/OM4/OM5 per IEC 60793 – 850 nm ≈ 3.0 dB/km, 1300 nm ≈ 1.0 dB/km. Connectors: typ. 0.30 dB, TIA-568 limit 0.75 dB, premium/E-2000 ≤ 0.10 dB. Splices: fusion typ. 0.10 dB, mechanical ≈ 0.30 dB. GPON budget per ITU-T G.984: Class B+ 28 dB, C+ 32 dB (ODN). All values are editable – the datasheets of the components you actually deploy always take precedence.
